Thoughts of Winter

Grey #Seattle days like today, remind me of strong leather accessories for Fall and Winter #Fashion.

On my next outing, I'll be looking for some strong boots in a dark, weathered leather. Same with jackets, something fit so you can see I'm a girl, but not above my waist; just at my waist is perfect (unless it's a fabulous leather trench =)

While I'm out, I'll also keep an eye out for some thick, leather cuffs. Black and White with silver accents works for me. I hate to say it, but something with a little fringe to add a little swish to my wave, would be pretty cool.

As soon as I saw this grey, goddess dress, I fell in LOVE!!

I love how simple the design is, but it's still unique and sexy. It slides from Summer time fling with strappy or wrap heels to Winter with thigh high leather boots (yes, again this Winter) and a fabulous black leather jacket.

This dress makes me want hit the treadmill for some focused body trimming exercise. Seriously, love the dress!

Looking through my closet I see a lot of black, off black and dark black. I decided to go shopping and found I was gravitating toward Grey and White. Good start to my added Spring color, but what I'm really in the mood for are pastels. So far, all I can find on the Eastside are bright yellow, pink and beige designs which are not exactly the hues that I'm looking for.

Searching for my pastel fix, I signed into ShopStyle and found this amazing lilac dress. I can't read the designer or the description, but past the language barrier, I can tell that I like it. Add a funky bag, fabulous wedges and some cute accessories and I'm ready to walk through Spring showers.

Meditating on Stella McCartney Dress

I found this FABULOUS Stella McCartney dress on ShopStyle.com and can't get it out of my mind. The way it flows, the way it dances around your thighs, the way it winks at me... it's a total tease! Of course, it's $2,000 and I know there is no way in hell I could go out and purchase it (not unless I move out and refused to support my family). So, I thought I would play the visualization game. I added the dress to a full date night look and am posting it here as my meditation focal point for the next few days (breathe).

On another note:

Why is fashion so calming for us? Why, after a super stressful day, can we get lost walking through stores, touching fabric, looking at lines and dreaming? It's pure therapy and always seems to calm me down.

I found it interesting when I took my daughter shopping this past weekend, that after a few minutes in the store she said "I was totally stressed before coming into the store, and now I'm excited and energized to try things on". Poor thing, she's caught the illness and there is no cure.

Oh well, it could be worse. Back to meditating on this fabulous dress...

Planning "Fashion You" for 2010

Each year I like to visualize what my next year will look like. Where do I live, what is my career, what am I eating, goals, activities... My vision changes throughout the year, but I try to have a clear goal in mind. My New Year vision also includes what I see myself wearing as it's part of who I am and can control how I feel (especially on crappy days).

This year, it's all about me. I'm focusing on less sacrificing for others and more living for me and remembering my values and enjoyments. Kids first, Me second...

So, I'm spending the next week surfing fashion sites, looking for styles that stand out to me... What does work look like, what does play look like, what does random look like and how do I feel in these outfits. I'll save pictures of the looks in a 'Charl' folder on my laptop and go through each style to ensure the collection makes me smile and feel good. After that, I have an easier focus of items to buy in the coming months.

What does 2010 fashion look like for you? Do you focus on what the designers are creating? what you want to wear? Or a little bit of both. For me, I get excited looking at designers visions and then creating my own look.

Either way, it's going to be a great year for fashion. A little more color, romance, girlie pieces and a lot more choices.

I settled into my cozy white leather chair and started searching for Spring 2010 #Fashion. I started with Betsey Johnson and then moved on to Marc Jacobs. I have to stop here and share some of his super colorful and fabulous Spring #Fashion Line with you. I admit these choices aren't the most colorful, but for me, they are and they are fabulous! I'm getting more and more excited for Spring. Lots of legs, colors and sun dresses. Don't forget about the incredibly romantic line by Galliano. So far, it's my favorite Spring 2010 style.

Fashion from the Doorway...

First, I'm not a big holiday decorator. I'd rather use my money to fly away for a fabulous holiday somewhere tropical BUT I am such a huge fan of holiday decorations (go figure).

I was on the HGTV site to see if they are doing another home giveaway (I love to look at their interior designs) when i came across this super cool DIY wreath. At first I thought is was a bracelet and when the page loaded I saw it was a wreath. Anyway, I thought it was really cool looking so I wanted to post it and share it out.

If you are into DIY or are low on funds or just want to have fun creating something for your house, check this out. This could be a great activity for household guests during Thanksgiving. If you create one, I'd love to see a picture of it. Have fun!

Tools and Materials: green garland wreath of any size; spray paint in 3-4 colors (our holiday palette was light blue, light green and silver); round ornaments in various sizes; ribbon; hot glue gun; glue sticks.

Steps:
1. Spray paint the ornaments in different colors, making sure you get all the way around, don’t miss any spots. Let dry.

2. Using the hot glue gun, secure base layer of ornaments around the garland wreath. The base layer will be a mix of mostly large, but some smaller ornaments.

3. Add some dimension with smaller ornaments on top, filling in gaps and holes.

4. Using a hot glue gun, secure one end of the ribbon somewhere on the wreath.

5. Wrap and weave the ribbon throughout the ornaments and the garland for a decorative finish.

6. Secure the other end of the ribbon with another dab of hot glue.

7. Once the glue is set, hang your wreath.

Wow, tonight's sneak preview of Seattle Goodwill's Glitter Sale was INCREDIBLE!! We are SO impressed (and grateful) with all the hard work the volunteers and employees put into this event.

When we first poked our heads into the warehouse, we felt like we were walking into a secret, special, vintage hideaway which, for some reason, had a feminine feel to it. As we walked in, we noticed sparkly, sequin gems all around us. Racks full of colorful designer, vintage, brand name treasures from Prada, Escada, St. John, Gucci and, get this, an original Mr Blackwell three piece dress set that nobody could criticize (#classy). There was even a beautiful fur coat from Mrs. Luke F. Scholl of Tacoma (and I mean, b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l). Our gracious hosts, Tracy and Betsy, provided a tour of their favorite pieces of one-of-a-kind vintage beauties and passionately explained the history behind so many wonderful pieces.

For you museum buffs, you cannot miss the historic pieces, like an original women's button front duster!! This is a piece of history guys!! You can frame it and hang in your house or fabulous office!! Let me also add that I saw quite a few outfits that still had their original price tags connected... Vintage pieces... can you imagine?

Zoe and I were both clicking away with the camera. I was so excited at one point, I dropped the camera and 'kind of' broke it. I wasn't able to get pictures of the shoes, purses, jewelry, but was able to upload some pics to post with this entry. I'll post more information and pics tomorrow once I get the pics from Zoe's phone.

I'm naturally hesitant to post this entry before the event because I want the warehouse to myself. Zoe and I agree it would be a fantasy to lock ourselves in there for a full day dressing up in hawt fashion with stylish shoes, eye catching purses, and shiny jewelry. Reality is, we had an incredible experience and want to share the excitement with all of you.

So pack up your coffee ladies and gents, the sale starts on Saturday at 9:00 AM, but reliable sources tell me that annual shoppers start to line up at 5:00 AM (Ouch! Really? Well, I'm certainly glad @PEMCO_NW is bringing us hot coffee and Top Pot Doughnuts). Remember to layer your clothes to aid your public-isle 'dressing room' as there are no dressing rooms. I'm told the warehouse becomes pretty warm with all of the excited bodies running around, so leave the heavy coat at home (or in your car). Styles for Fall and Winter are keeping the feathers and flowers around, even as the birds fly south. Finding anything coated in feathers and petals should not shock you during your next trip out to the mall. My new favorite item that seems to be flying off the shelf: Headbands. They are becoming so decorative and fun, definitely more of a statement then ever before.

The first Goodwill Glitter Sale began in 1983 at the Dearborn Street location. It's still in the same location 26 years later.

Fashion love at first site...

My BFF @LeannU and I were shopping at Macy's the other day and were drawn in by some fabulous fashion. The lines of a black dress, zippers on a plaid jacket, contrasting fabrics, vibrant colors, unique designs and... (did I mention the zippers). We pulled open the jacket and saw the name 'Rachael Roy'. We didn't know who she was, but were so excited she was here. We quickly went through racks of Rachael Roy fashions like little girls "oh, look at this", "ooh, look at these zippers" "I love it!" "look, a sign with her name on it..". Ok, this might sound sad to some, but we were so excited to have a new line to play with. I know it was the zippers, studs, chains and odd mixture of fabrics that drew me in. This odd combination has always been my favorite. I can't wait to go back and try everything on (maybe Friday).

Yay, I just received my heels.com email. Yes, email. I like getting email from them in my work account. It's like finding money in your jacket pocket, but better. No matter what I'm doing, I stop my work, open the email, enable pictures and view all of the fabulous shoes. I always find something fabulous to click on and then I play around with the various views.

They have a quick button to add to Polyvore which I love, because they 'get' the fashion lovers. I don't use Polyvore as much as my daughter, but am happy to see they understand a lot of us like to create online lookbooks which adds a lot of visibility to their products. Most of the lookbook tools I use have a widget for my browser so it's not a big deal that they don't have all of my tools listed. With that said, I would love to see a 'shareit' that included all of the lookbook tools.

Here are some gems I found on heels.com this morning. I think the Betsey Johnson heels would look great if anyone is dressing up as a naughty school girl for Halloween. You know you want to... bad grrl

I'm not a big watch person. In fact, I moved to #Seattle so I could ditch my watch and only have an alarm clock to get my kids off to school. I was going to live on my own time, that was the plan. Well, 11 years later, I still don't live by a watch, but I do live by my smartphone's clock. Maybe it's time to ditch the crazy phone and put some classic style back into my schedule.

We have just entered the month of October and if your High School has not already had your fall ball or "homecoming" then I'm sure you're in a rush to find a dress as well as a date. I find the same problem every time I look at dresses for formal occasions. They all look the same. A solid color, shiny dress that is sure to walk through the doors of your High School multiple times in one night. Avoiding this problem is the first thing that should be on your checklist for finding the right dress. I have found quite a few sites that give you some unique dresses that are sure to be one of a kind for the night.

Not really, but I am happy to announce that our focus on cool weather fashion (black, leather boots, scarf, patterned tights and wool coat) are spot on to what was Paris-chic in the streets. Expecting to see big, lace hairbows, a la Madonna'esqe, big-neck sweatshirts hanging off a sexy shoulder & neon colors, I was happily met with some super sexy shoe photos and yummy fashion. I'm haven't been a fan of shirt dresses in some time, but when I saw this street pic from The Sartorialist this AM, I became a fan once again.

I'm not sure if it's the full outfit with fab shoes & black jacket (hot items this season) or the girl's super hot legs draw me in. Either way, I like this look. If you are doing 'the walk of shame' this outfit is perfect as there is no shame here.

I nudged my hubby to confirm the name as I haven't seen or worn these shoes in many, many years. I started thinking of outfits with cool flared minis, thigh-high socks & fit blazers matched with these shoes & couldn't help but think how fun it would be to have a pair. I'd like a chunky low heel with mine, please.

I have a soft spot for bandage dresses... bandage anything for that matter. They are body hugging, delicious items and I can't get enough of. I had a few of these in my early 20s and want a few more years later (not too many years later ;-)

Nobody does bandage dresses better than Herve Leger, including the Herve Leger Signature Bandage Dress. Tadashi Shoji comes in a very close 2nd with this (bottom) off shoulder bandage dress showing just enough collar and neck.

My girlfriend asked me to take her shopping to find a new style for her as she's in a frumpy slump. She usually shops Ann Taylor and has some cute pieces, but I had to tell her to hit up Ann Taylor Loft as their ads have caught my attention. I love the pre-made outfits included in their 'Denim You'll live in' ad above and their super cute, but basic outfits below.

I'll still take her shopping to help push her out of frumpsville, but seriously, if you need to put some fun umpf into your wardrobe, but aren't super comfortable with thigh-high leather boots, platform shoes or bandage dresses, go to Ann Taylor Loft and find yourself some umpf. I know other people probably have a similar outfit on, but seriously, have you seen anyone in your office or mommy-group dressed like this? Probably not (yet).

Limited party gowns adorned the Valentino, Paris Haute Couture Fall 2009 runway. Tradition was, instead, replaced by magical tucked tulle, sparkly fairy dresses to make every princess feel special. Thanks to @thinkmaya, I just found a super cool #fashionforcause site. It's called The Uniform Project. Here is the idea on the site:

What do you think of the new pointy shoulder trend? My first thought is "i love the lines, but it looks like something only pencil thin people can successfully wear". I haven't ventured out and tried them on yet, but this weekend, I think I will.

My 9 year old isn't one to smile unless there is a really good reason. This week, I decided to buy him some "power clothes", something that would make him feel confident; something that he would willingly wear without my making a deal with him. I found it in the Tony Hawk isle - Tony Hawk jeans, shorts, t-shirts, sandals, socks & underwear. When I brought the clothes home and announced each item as "Tony Hawk (insert clothing item)" it took all of his strength not to smile. He tried each item on immediatley (which is usually not the case) and then announced that he "liked them".

When it gets a little cooler, I'll throw in a Tony Hawk sweatshirt. For now, the smile on his face when I say "your Tony Hawk jeans look so cool" is all I need.
